Angry Birds 2 Patch Notes Meta Announcement
Improvements to Feature Announcements
From now on, we’re aiming to release additional blog posts that cover new game features in detail as soon as they go live! This is part of our ongoing commitment to improving the overall flow of information.
We’re always trying to improve the way we communicate ongoing changes in Angry Birds 2. For that reason, we’ve decided to make this change to our update news to give you more information, sooner. Here’s what that will look like, and why we believe this decision will improve everyone’s experience.
Why Patch Notes are Changing
By now, many of you are used to seeing patch notes on the day our major updates start rolling out. This has been our preferred way to share news as soon as we can, but these notes don’t always mention every new feature or improvement.
The reason for this is something called feature flags. In a live service title like Angry Birds 2, features included with a new build are often flagged ‘off’ at first, and are announced and released at a later date. When flagged ‘off’, a feature is not added to the game until we flag it on. Sometimes this is to allow a new update to roll out completely while we monitor the game’s stability and performance. A feature may also be flagged ‘off’ if it’s due to be introduced as part of our event schedule (like Shade’s launch or the recent Subway Surfers collab, for example).
What this means is that we often can’t announce new improvements or features as part of the patch notes, as they’re not due to go live immediately. This sometimes results in some light-looking patch notes for major updates, which we think could be improved.
So What Are We Improving?
In addition to our usual Flock Forward posts, we’ll be posting special announcements as soon as features and improvements are flagged ‘on’. We’ll be able to dive much deeper into new features and how they work, and you’ll get more of the info that matters to you, as soon as we can share it.
If critical improvements or bug fixes are included and enabled immediately in a patch, we’ll announce those with the patch itself as usual. The main difference going forward is that new features will get their own blog post at a more appropriate time, and with much more detailed information. So keep an eye out for more blog posts in the near future!
Happy flinging!
